to my knowledge:

Microwave communication is a line-of-sight communication.For
communicating long distances(two persons comm. through
mobile between INDIA and U.S.)we use microwave comm. in
which signals are sent to a satellite and from there to the
destination.In this purpose we use Microwave Antennas for
transmitting or receiving.
