The formula for rust is:
(A) FeO
(B) Fe2O3
(C) Fe3O4
(D) Fe2O3 xH2O
Answer Posted / pisgahchemist
Actually, rust can take several forms. Under water, rust is
Fe(OH)3, and dehydrated rust is Fe2O3. But the rust that
most of us see is FeO(OH), which unfortunately is not listed
among the "answers". Too bad the item writer isn't aware of
this. The best answer among those which are given is (D),
the hydrated iron(III) oxide.
