Why the airgap of an induction motor is less compared to
that of a synchronous machine?

Answer Posted / ujjal das

1)Lesser air gap of I.M. result in less magnetising current
(which is lagging reactive component of current)causing
better p.f.
2)Lesser air gap of I.M. result in less noise.
3)Better utilisation of stator flux.
In S.M.AIR GAP IS NOT A GOVERNING FACTOR OF P.F.
