like this,

1.open the file in I-O mode.
2.Move the file data structure to working-storage data structure.
3.read the particular field, what do you want
4.add the data (or) move the new data to reading the particular field.
5.Rewrite the file.
6.close it.

note: with in the field size you can be add a new data, you are not allowed to add more fields on the file....
