1) what is the difference between development length &
overlap length ? 2) why extras are provided at top and
bootom in a beam of slab? 3) why stirrups are provided at
0.3l at supports and 0.4l at center? 4) is column a
compression memeber if yes how & beam is which type of
memeber?

2)Extras are provided on top to compensate hogging moment
ie. to compensate or counter negative bending moment. At
bottom, to compensate sagging moment ie. to come out of
positive bending moment.
3)Stirrups are provided for the purpose of shear stresses.
At ends of the beam, shear stresses are more that is why at
ends, stirrups are provided nearer and at center of the
beam, shear stresses are less compare to ends, therefore at
center of the beam, stirrups are provided at larger space,
compare to ends of the beam.
4)Column is completely & totally a compression member.Upper
part of the beam is a compression member and lower half(or
lower remaining part ie. as per the design) of the beam is a
tension member.
