Why Cables are always circular and not square or rectangular?
Answer Posted / ak samy
The cables are mainly used for A.C tramission of power. As
per the SKIN effect law principle the ac current density
is concentrated on outer surfaces of the conductor with
flux distribution of concentric circles.Hence circular
cables are used an advanatge of current carrying capacity
point of view. For DC transmission the cables can be square
(or) Rectangular. It is immaterial.
