Basically we use digital signals in computer. But we use analog type of communication through wires .So our digital signal needs to be converted into analog signals. This is achieved through the usage of modem . Modem stands for MOdulator DEModulator . Its acts as a modulator thereby converting our digital signals into analog signals. These analog signals can be sent through phone line. In the receiving end the analog signals are again converted into digital signals.
