Why dies a small quantity of air introduced into the top of
the barometer tube depress the level of mercury ?
Answer Posted / arun k s
The air introduced into the top of the barometer fills

further increases when the mercury colomn compresses the
air). Hence the inside mercury colomn get the assistance of
this air pressure to balance the outside atmospheric
pressure & the mercury level depresses.
