what's burden resistor, why it's used?

Answer Posted / laszlo juhasz

Burden resistors are connected to the secondary side of a
CT(Current Transformer)as a "load" and used for setting the
desired Voltage at the CT's secondary side.
Since CT's are made to transfer current in the amount of the
ratio between the Primary and Secondary turns (Np/Ns)
A 1:10 ratio CT at the secondary side will produce a ~10
times lower current at a ~10 times higher Voltage.
Adding a parallel resistor(burden) across the secondary side
will act as a load and results Voltage drop.

In Power Line Communication (PLC) the wave trap is used to block communication signals from entering neighboring lines. My question is this: Why do they allow for different filtering arrangements on these wave traps? Isn't it always going to be a low pass filter since we want the power frequency to go through, and the comm signal blocked?
