Because uracil can base pair with almost any other base,
including itself but in thymine the methyl group restricts
uracil to pairing only with adenine. This reduces the rate
of mismatches and thus mutation in the DNA.

How DNA is being Transplanted?
The village of Oblong has 400 normally-shaped residents. Transferrin is an iron carrier found in blood, and electrophoretic variation of this protein is determined by an autosomal codominant system. The citizens of Oblong were typed for their transferrin complements. The distribution of transferrin phenotypes was: 100 CC, 100 CD, and 200 DD. What is the frequency of the C allele?
What is your personal opinion regarding genetic engineering and human cloning?
Can you name a few potential risks of Genetic Engineering?
Flower position, stem length, and seed shape were three traits that were studied by Mendel. Each is controlled by an independently assorting gene. If a plant that is heterozygous for all three traits was allowed to self- fertilize, what proportion of the offspring would be expected to show all three dominant phenotypes?
Explain in terms of gene product function how a mutant allele can be dominant? recessive?
Suppose you are heterozygous for a mutant beta-thalassemia allele. If the frequency of beta-thalassemia is 1/1600 persons, what is the probabilty that your prospective spouse is heterozygous for a mutant beta-thalassemia allele?
What are the 8 steps that are involved in genetic engineering?
Is Recombination in Human Mitochondrial DNA really possible?
Genetic engineering harms or benefits human societyharms? What obstacles must gene therapy overcome? What instrumentation is required for DNA sequence analysis and how does it work?
How is a genetic trait determined by the genetic code within a dna molecule?
Flower position, stem length, and seed shape were three traits that were studied by Mendel. Each is controlled by an independently assorting gene. What situations might be viewed as ethical uses of human cloning? Are you doubtful, fearful, or hopeful about human cloning?
What is the chemical composition of gene?
A blastomere was removed from an 8-cell human embryo, and its beta-globin gene was amplified by PCR. The beta-globin DNA was treated with an enzyme that cuts on either side of and within the normal allele (producing a small fragment), but not within the sickle cell allele (producing a large fragment). Electrophoresis of the treated DNA from the blastomere demonstrated the presence of both a large and small fragment derived from the beta-globin genes. How should you interpret this test?
