Is it compulsory to prepare KBr disc with sample in
identification test by FTIR?
Answer Posted / alpesh patel
No, it is not necessary.
In SHIMADU make FTIR (Model: 8400S) with DRS, the KBr disc
need not to prepare.
The IR spectrum is directly run from mixture of the
substance to be examined with finely powdered and dried KBr
or KCl. Mixture containing approximately 5% of the
substance is used, unless otherwise specified. Grind the
mixture, place it in a sample cup and examine the
reflectance spectrum.
This method is mentioned in British Pharmacopoeia.
