What is meant by Active and reactive power?

Answer Posted / kushal

Actually in the transmission line the powerflow takes place.
the complete power in the transmission line is known as
total power which is further divided in two parts i.e.
1.active power or real power or apparant power.
2.reactive power or unreal power.
now their work in the transmission line
what exactly they required for...
1.active power:it controls the frequency balance in the
transmission line.
2.reactive power:it controls the voltage balance in the
transmission line.
what happens basically
Total power is denoted by S = P + Q.
where P=active power
Q=reactive power.
when the resistive power get mixed up with the inductive
power it becomes active power & when resistive power mixed
up with the capacitive power it becomes reactive power.

thats why when the inductive load on the transmission line
becomes more then we have to add capacitive reactance to
compensate it & vice-versa...
