What is meant by locking of rotor in synchronous motor?
Explain me locking in detail?
Answer Posted / nilesh_sarate
In synchronous motor is known as induction motor in which
rotor received power in the form of induction just like
transformer pri. and sec. windings,
here in synchrouns motor stator winding is steady only
flux is rotating, while rotor is rotating, 90% of motors r
induction motors, rotor consist of cylindrical laminated
core with slots for carring conductors, but this are not
wires this are bars of coppers, aluminius,or alloys one bar
in each slots, this bars short circuited at end, this bars
are given slightly skew, to aviod locking tendancy of motor.
Now asuum the stator winding is parraler to which
three phase supply given and then rotating flux will
generat, now if u r rotor bars also will paraller then
there is possibility of locking., as both windings r
parralers.
