What will happen to the speed of synchronous machine
subjected beyond the pull out torque?
Are the behavior shown by rotor remains same for both the
alternator and motor?
Answer Posted / iamdon
Beyond pull out torque, the speed of synchronous machine
changes from synchronous speed. This is called LOSS OF
SYNCHRONISM or PULLING OUT OF SPEP.
The behaviour shown by the rotor of synchronous machine in
this condition will NOT REMAIN SAME for alternator and
motor as expalined below.
Motor:An increase in the SHAFT LOAD TORQUE beyond the pull
out torque will cause the rotor to lose synchronism and
thus to SLOW DOWN.
Generator:An increse in PRIME MOVER TORQUE beyond the pull
out torque will cause the rotor to lose synchronism and
thus to SPEED UP.
