An employee has £4000 of salary tax free. The next £1500 is
taxed at 10%
The next £28000 is taxed at 22%
Any further amount is taxed at 40%
Which of these groups of numbers would fall into the same
equivalence class?
a) £4800; £14000; £28000
b) £5200; £5500; £28000
c) £28001; £32000; £35000
d) £5800; £28000; £32000
Can you please explain in brief, how to do equivalance
class?
Answer Posted / nidhi
According to me , correct answer is d.
Because
4000 tax free
next 1500 = 10%
next 28000 = 22%
above rest = 40%
Now if suppose My salary is b/w 4000 - 5500, I will be
taxed 10%
Now if suppose My salary is b/w 5500 - 33500, I will be
taxed 10% b/w 4000 -5500 and 22% on salary b/w 5500-33500
Now if suppose My salary is above 33500, I will be taxed
10% b/w 4000 -5500, 22% on salary b/w 5500-33500 and 40%
above 33500.
Therefore, our equivalence classes become salary b/w 4001-
5500,5501-33500 and above 33500.
Option d has all the values falling in b/w the rance 5501-
33500.
Please let me know if I am wrong.

I know functional test cases are derived from frs and system design specs. But are test cases for performance, database, boundary, relational integrity and other types of tests other than functional tests created from frs and system design specs as well? When are these test cases created? Are they in the same test plans alongside functional test cases or is their a different test plan that includes these test cases?
