1.thermal power plants are usualy used to generate steam
for processing purpose or for generating power for grid
supply while captive power plants are usualy used in oreder
to generate power for company's own purpose...
2.thermal power plants use coal or oil as fuel while
captive power plants are usualy cogeneration power plants
which uses natural gas or high speed diesel as fuel...
3.efficeincy of captive power plants is much higher as most
of the energy is extracted as compared to thermal power
plant...
