potentiometer is three terminal resistor with a sliding
contact, that provides adjustable voltage by varying the
contact it is used to measure the potential in the circuit.
rheostat is one type of potentiometer but it has two
terminals instead of three terminals these are wildly used
in industries for controlling the motors
