how squirrel cage & slip ring motor works? how they differ
from each other
Answer Posted / vivek
Both are types AC rotors or otherwise known as induction motors
The squirrel cage motor as the name suggests is constructionally similar to a hamster cage. It has low starting torque but good speed
The slip ring on the other hand has brushes or contacts emerging from the rotor and making contact with the slip rings to draw power to energise the rotor field. The outcome of this kind of construction is high starting torque but poor speed.
