AC transmission is used as compared to DC because for
following reason... AC can be transformed to low current
high voltage configuration using transformer. Conductor size
required will be less and hence more economical...... 2nd
reason which is main reason is AC is bidirectional hence has
ability to move in both the directions ...
DC can be transformed according to need but costly
rectifiers are neede heence for buulk power transmission ac
is used... correct me if wrong.....

For a 6.6kV Motor it is recommended to do megger test with 500 V d.c and not more than 5kV d.c but the Hi voltage withstand test should be performed by 12kV AC. Why the dc voltage test should be limited but AC voltage withstand test could be with such a high voltage?
