what are gangliosides?where they are found?
Answer Posted / swapna
Group of glycosphingolipids are the gangliosides. They
compose a chemically and structurally diverse group of
neuronal cell membranes. They are important in membrane
turn over mechanisms through recycling of plasma membrane
through the lysosomal compartments (endocytosis).
These occur in brain, in neuronal membranes Aside from
this, they occur at low levels in all animal tissues where
like the neutral oligoglycosphingolipids they are
concentrated in 'rafts' in the plasma membrane.
