Two dissimilar material jointed together it is called hot
junction and kept free other end it is called cold junction.
An emf induced at cold junction it directly proportional to
temperature difference between two junctions. For example
the hot surface is in 300 deg c (hot junction) and room temp
is 30 deg c (cold junction) you will get mv which is equal
to 270 deg c.
