What should be the stanchan Height for installation of
Smoke detector & toxic gas detector in field, according to
qatar standard
Answer Posted / m.v.ramesh
Ther is no countries standards for installation. Standards
are meant for type of industries, process and nature of
measurements.
1.a. Here for installing the smoke detectors there is no
particular height stndards. It has to be in the region of
smoke source or fire source. usually on the false sealings
in the buildings (height depends upon ceiling height).
(tendancy of smoke is raising to higher levels).
1.b. Under the false floors where the cables are laid in
the control rooms (Height depends upon False floor height).
In fields normally smoke detectors are not envisaged.
Because smoke is so thin and it may not raise verticcally
due to wind currents. Any how fire / heat detection is
suitable for detecting the fire hzards in the fields.
2. Ragrding toxic gas detectors again it has to be in the
region of gas emiting source or leakage sources,
ie, for example toxic gases emits from drainages or leak
from flange joints and piping components joints, so the
height of detector depends upon the height of the emiting
source or leackage source.
One has to study the civil/mech installations and decide
the height of the detectors.
