In case of a beam ,main steel is provided along the longer
span because, bending moment is directly proportional to
length but why in case of one way slab main steel is
provided along shorter span while as bending takes place
along longer span?comment

Benduing moment in any direction is proportional to the
curvature. Now the central deflection of slab in both the
direction is same. Since the length in the shorter
direction is less than other so curvature(1/R) value is
much in the shorter direction.So the BM is much in shorter
direction,requiring to provide reinforcement in shorter
direction.
