why electric shock due to dc is dangerous than that of ac
Answer Posted / michael pardee
AC is more dangerous, because nerves tend to be excited by
by the polarity reversals of AC and blocked by the steady
state of DC. That is the oversimplified, short answer, but
it explains why AC is hard to let go of when the current
reaches dangerous levels. I've never had trouble letting go
of DC!
I used to work with vacuum tubes in Ye Olde Days and got
across 250-300 volts DC many times, once with excellent
hand-to-hand contact. 300 volts DC hurts as much as 120
volts AC, but feels different. DC shocks are like being hit
by a board; AC shocks feel like a herd of giant deranged
ants stampeding through your body.
