All mammals and even some birds can contract various forms
of rabies, though rabies in birds has generally only
occurred experimentally. Any mammal bite, especially a wild
one, should be shown to a doctor immediately. Waiting more
than 48 hours is foolish. The animal, dead or alive, should
also be procured for scientific testing.
