Fusiform initials are helpful in the formation of secondary
xylem and secondary phloem components and thereby
contributes in secondary growth.
Ray initials are helpful in the formation of xylem rays and
phloem rays and helps in lateral conduction of water and
mineral salts through these ray initials.
