What is the difference in assigning contract in IT 0001 and
IT 0016?

It0001 is the main Infotype for all the enterprise and
personnel structure. IT16 serves a much smaller purpose by
storing the kind of contract the employee has with the
company - like permanent full time, permanent part time,
etc. IT16 end date can also be used to mark the end of
contract.
