6 cats kill 6 rats in 6 minutes .how many cats will be
needed to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes?

Answer Posted / dr mark s

Theoreticaly the answers are correct but practicaly incorrect.

The kill ratio that the answers stated are based on an equal
ratio of Cats to Rats but consider when there are less rats
than cats ie 12 Cats and 6 rats ... theoreticaly two cats
could kill one rat twice as fast as one cat could but in
practice this would not happen, one cat would be killing and
th other cat would be sitting on the sidelines licking his
lips and sharpening its claws, he cannot speed up the kill rate.

Most people approach this conumdrum from a pure mathematical
POV as opposed to applied mathematics, I mean honestly can
12 cats kill the last rat in 30 seconds?

Lewis Carroll wrote many riddles such as this and along with
Newton was one of the great mathematicians of the recent age.
