what happen when diesel is injected in petrol engine
Answer Posted / kkumar
The compression ratio of a petrol engine is around 6 to 9
and it is ignited by a spark plug.
The compression ratio of a diesel engine is around 14 to 25
and ignition takes place due to the rise in temperature of
air during compression.
Hence diesel requires at least a compression ration of 14
for self ignition. If the engine is preheated to a certain
level.. and diesel is injected...yes ..it will work.. but
detonation / knock will take place. Simply injecting diesel
inside the petrol engine will not serve any purpose.
