what is the working principal of diode

Answer Posted / sanju

P type- holes are the majority charge carriers.
N type-electrons are the majority charge carriers.
When diode is forward biased,p type is connected to +ve
terminal of the battery and n type is connected to -ve
terminal of the battery. The holes in p type are attracted
to n type.Similarly the electrons in n type are attracted
to p type.It is called as the electronhole pair
combination. This region is called as depletion region. The
width of the depletion region is thin. The current flows in
forward direction.
When diode is reverse biased,p type is connected to -ve
terminal of the battery and n type is connected to +ve
terminal of the battery. In p type the holes are attracted
to -ve terminal of the battery and in n type the electrons
are attracted to +ve terminal of the battery. The width of
the depletion region is thick.Because of the minority
charge csrriers current flows in the reverse bias.
