why the generating voltage in India is 11kV or why is it be
transmitted as multiples of 11
Answer Posted / johince
Multiples of 11 has no role decoded from form factor and anything
like that (I believe). the relation to form factor is just a
coincidence.
In early days when technology has not advanced this much, the
transmission lines consumes around 10% of the total power
transferred. Normally loads are designed as multiples of 10 or
100 KW. So the generation done for required load power +
transmission loss. ie 11KW, 110KW etc. So generated voltage also
was designed as multiples of 11.
Hence the insulators has to be designed for these volatges and
hence the form factor coincidently derived as 1.11.

In Air circuit breaker LSIG protection unit is used. Without fault in cables (2 runs 3Cx150Sq.mm Copper, 1Kv grade, XPLE armored cable IR value is more than 550Mohm @ 500V Megger) and load section Long time Overcurrent protection is triggers and trips the unit. I just purchased a 4 position cam switch to be used to operate a 3-speed blower motor. The motor is a 10 amp motor and has 3 wires that are used to control speed. The cam switch was rated at 660V 20 amps but when I received it, I noticed that it has AC-15 operational current rating (Ie) of 4/5 amps. If I am reading the label correctly. the 4/5 amps is related to 440v/220V (Ue). Other ratings are AC-3: 5.5A, AC2: 7.5A and AC-4: 1.5A. My questions are 1) Is it safe to use this switch with the motor I have 2) what is the difference between the 20 amp Ith ratting and the Ie operational ratings?
