G.N Ramachandran recognised that an aminoacid residue in a
polypeptide chain cannot have just any pair of values
of "theta" and "psi".
By assuming that atoms behave as hard spheres allowed
ranges of theta and psi values can be predicted and
visualised in steric contour diagram called Ramachandran
plots.
