In a class of 60 students, the number of boys and girls
participating in the annual sports is in the ratio 3 : 2
respectively. The number of girls not participating in the
sports is 5 more than the number of boys not participating
in the sports. If the number of boys participating in the
sports is 15, then how many girls are there in the class?

Total number in class, a=60
total number of boys participating, b=15
ratio of gals to boys participating is 3:2
so total number of gals participating is 10
so total number of boys and gals not participating are 35

total number of boys not participating let say 'x'
total number of gals not participating is 'x+5'
so total number is equal is to 35

=> x+x+5=35
=> 2x=30
=> x=15

so gals not participating are 20
so total number of gals in the class are 30

answer is (4)
