difference between steam hammering and water hammering
Answer Posted / nathani
Steam hammering:-If a steam pipe-line is to be charged,
initially all the condensate in the line is to be drained
out. If draining is improper & if some condensate is left
in the line, then at the time of steam charging in line may
cause hammering. This is steam hammering. This is because of
sudden drop in pr. of steam as it comes in contact of
condensate.
Water hammering:-Pr. surge in water occuring because of
sudden drop in velocity of water flowing through a pipe
(mainly because of sudden closing of valves) causes
hammering effect in pipe-line.
Its intensity depends on rate of drop of velocity of
water,dia. of pipe&length of pipe.
