tell 2 reasons for why only copper is used in domestic
wires& only alluminium in transmission lines ?
Answer Posted / sanket patil
1.THE FIRST AND FOREMOST REASON IS THAT COPPER IS MUCH
COSTLIER THAN ALLUMINUM (APPROX 4 TIMES) SO TO RUN HUNDREDS
OF Km OF OVERHEAD LINES WOULD BE MUCH EXPENSIVE.
2.ON THE OTHER HAND CONDUCTIVITY OF Cu IS HIGHER THAN Al
HENCE THE SIZE OF Cu WIRE REQD TO CARRY SAME CURRENT AS OF
Al IS LESSER, ALSO THE LOSSES ARE LESS HENCE LOW TEMP RISE
AND LOW RISK OF INSULATION FAILURE AND SHORT CKT:- AN IMP
FACTOR FOR HOUSE HOLD APPLICATIONS.
