. The small kingdom in the Himalayas which is an Indian protectorate is (1) Sikkim (2) Bhutan..

Answer / indian foreign minister

1) Sikkim was a protectorate of India from 1947 to 1975,then
it chose to join Indian Union. Now its a state in India. So,
its not just a protectorate but an integral part of India
itself.
2) Bhutan had signed a Peace and Friendship treaty with
India in 1949, under which Bhutan gets special privileges
from India and Bhutan is very much a protectorate of India.
3) Nepal also signed a Peace and Friendship treaty with
India in 1950, with terms and conditions similar to Bhutan.
However, after King of Nepal Mahendra took power he
dismissed all terms of the treaty as unequal. Despite it,
neither Nepal nor India have refuted P&FT of 1950. Nepal has
an independent foreign policy since 1956. However, most of
the terms of the treaty has been watered down because of
Nepal's retaliation. Still Nepal enjoys privileges similar
to Bhutan. In 1947, PM JLN declared as attack on Nepal would
be considered as attack on India. As 1950's P&FT is still
valid, since neither party has denounced it, hence Nepal is
also a de facto protectorate of India.
