Explain the Work, Power and Energy ?

Explain the Work, Power and Energy ?..

Answer / km jyoti saini

Work:-When a force acts upon a body and point of application of force moves in the direction in which the force acts the force is said to have done work in the body. When it moves in opposite direction to that of force, work is said to be done against the force.

Unit of work:-It is the work dine by a unit of force in moving the point of application , through a distance of unit length. The CGS Unit if work is erg and FPS Unit is foot poundal. Erg and foot poundal re absolute units

Power:-It is the rate of doing work. Power of an agent is measured by the amount of work the agent is capable of performing per unit time

Power = Work done
------------
Time taken

Its units are; erg per sec. in C.G.S. system foot poundal per sec. in F.P.S. system, per sec. or Watt in M.K.S. system

The practical unit of power is Horse power(H.P)

Energy:-It is defined as the capacity of doing work. It is measured by the quantity of work that a body can

The most common unit of power is kilowatt hour. It is equal to 1000 X 3600 joules.

Potential energy:- Of a system is the energy by virtue the position or configuration of a system. It is measured by the amount of work done by a body in coming from its present position of configuration to some standard position or configuration.

Numerically potential energy= mgh

Kinetic energy:- Kinetic energy of a body is its capacity of doing work by virtue of its motion. It is measured by the amount of work that a body id capable of performing in coming to rest.

Example:-A stone when projected upward, will rise into the air and thereby do work against gravity. The kinetic energy is measured by the work done by the stone in coming to rest.

Transformation of energy:-One kind of energy be changed into energy of another form and this is known as transformation of energy

Example:-When a stone is raised to the top of a roof the energy possessed by the stone is potential. The potential energy gradually changes to kinetic energy as the stone fall to the ground the energy is wholly kinetic when the stone is on the point of just striking the ground and when it strikes the ground, the kinetic energy is changed into sound or any other form

Conservation of energy:-If one system loses energy, the other system gains an equal quantity of energy. Thus energy is not destroyed or created. This is known as principle of conservation of energy
