To change the instance type for instances running in an application tier that uses Auto Scaling, follow these steps:
1. Open the AWS Management Console and navigate to the EC2 dashboard.
2. Select the Auto Scaling group that contains your instances.
3. Click on 'Actions' and select 'Edit Launch Configuration'.
4. Choose the desired instance type from the list of available options.
5. Save the changes and update the Auto Scaling group.
