Whale is a mammal, but NOT a fish. It has no gills, but it
has got lungs. It can not breathe under water, although it
can live there for long time. So for breathing, it has to
come to the surface.

whale lack a swim bladder so they have to come to the
surface of the ocean to gulp air for respiration purpose.
