with a nimitz class carrier four jets can launch aided by
steam powered catapults every 30 seconds until a complete
alpha strike is launched. nimitz class carriers have four
catapults two on the bow and two on the angle deck. the
jets are launched one right after another and then the next
jet in line is attached to the zipper by a breaker bar
designed to snap in half at the desired tension . the
tension is calculated by the aircraft weight, fuel load and
payload and then dialed into the catapult.
