Tell about protection and promotion of Indian languages?
Answer / Anwar Ahmad Khan
The Government of India has taken several steps to protect and promote Indian languages. The Official Languages Act, 1963, declares Hindi and English as the official languages of the Union. Further, the Constitution's Eighth Schedule lists 22 regional languages that enjoy equal status alongside Hindi and English at the national level. State governments also encourage the use of local languages in education, administration, and media to preserve linguistic diversity.
