it is a secondary lymphoid organ.degradation of RBC occurs
in spleen only. Blood born antigens can not be removed
from the body.

if you remove spleen from your body , there will be no site
to degrade hemoglobin ,and in some cases if bone marrow is
not working spleen may take over the function of bone
marrow.so if it is removed there will be definite loss of
immune functions.
