Gas and Steam Turbine Basic protection include:
Overspeed, high vibration, Low lube oil pressure, and high
lube oil temperature.
Specific to gas turbine would be high exhaust temp, excess
spread of temperatures in the exhaust, inlet suction low
pressure, combustion pulsations, compressor bleed valve not
closed, underspeed too close to surge point, fuel valve not
in proper relation to turbine load, and flame detector
failure.
Specific to steam turbines would be inlet steam temperature
high or low, inlet steam pressure low, exhaust steam
pressure high, exhaust steam temperature high, drum level
high on the supply boiler.
Generator faults do not always trip the associated Turbine.

Turbine protection in steam turbines are mainly overspeed, low steam pressure, low vacuum, low vacuum backup, exhaust hood high temperature, loss of generator seal oil, stator water temperature hi, gas concentration very high in stator water, manual trip & electrical trips associated with generator, main transformer, unit service transformer
