A person wanted to withdraw X rupees and Y paise from the bank. But cashier made a mistake and gav..

Answer / billy busse

One paise = 1/100 of a rupee.

Given the conditions, we know that:

(X*100 + Y)*2 = Y*100 + X - 20
200X + 2Y = 100Y + X - 20

199X - 98Y = -20

We also know that X and Y must both be integers.

So, put the equation in Y = MX + B form:

199X + 20 = 98Y
(199X + 20)/98 = Y

Now put this in the Y= function of a graphing caluclator,
set the table to start at 1 and go up by increments of 1,
and then scroll down the table until you see an integer
pair.

The integer pair occurs at (26,53)

Therefore, X = 26 and Y = 53

A person wanted to withdraw X rupees and Y paise from the bank. But cashier made a mistake and gav..

Answer / k subramanian

Rs Ps
Original Cheque amount x y
Bank Gave y x
20 Paise spent balance y x-20
Double of Cheque Value 2x 2y
This is same as 2x+1 2y-100 (Here we have used
the fact that 100
paise = 1 Re) We
have removed 100
paise and added 1
Rupee. So the value
remains the same !!
Now we have two equation in x and y such as

2x-y = -1
x-2y = -80

solving these for x and y gives the answer as

x=26 and y=53

Hence the value written in cheque is Rs 26.53

A person wanted to withdraw X rupees and Y paise from the bank. But cashier made a mistake and gav..

Answer / jyotsna

Since a lot of would not have a graphing calcy, here's what
you can do:
after coming upto (199x+20)/98

remainder of 20/98 = 20

remainder 199/98 = 3 --(1)
we need to find 'y' such that Remainder(199y/98 ) = 20, or
20+199y = multiple of 98

(20 +78 = 98)

78/3 = 26 ( ....from 1)
thus x = 26
and y = (20 + 26*199)/98 = 53
