why rating of motor in HP?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
actually, the answer to this question is,the ratings of
the motor must be in watts ,since dependent on
power ,therefore by using the formula,
1hp=740watts, this enables the conversion in
watts.
just to avoid higher ratings we are in use of hp

b'coz motor rating depends upon o/p mechanical shaft
power/torque.thereof,it doesn't depend on electrical i/p power.
So it is rated in HP which is a mechanical unit.

HP is non-SI units of power,
1 HP = 746 Watts.OR 1HP x 0.746 = kW
It was originally defined to allow the output of steam
engines to be measured and compared with the power output
of draft horses.
Practicaly all system measurements converts into Electrical
System for simplicity and easy valuable results

there is one simple question that why we are using KW and not HP?
ANS:-
as we know that is HP is unit of power in mechanical sometimes it happens that we say that am heaving 150W motor
and in market it the minimum size is in 0.5HP as said in above answer it is easy to calculate KW power of motor
second we are using motor to do mechanical work not electrical work so it would be easy to say that we heaving motor in HP not in KW

Stean engine or oil engine or motor are usually rated in HP
because these mation drive another machine soits power is
termed as mechanical power hence it is rated in hp.
