what is the differance between Horizental and vertical heat exchanger? ..

Answer / totti

main difference b/w horizontal and vertical heat exchanger
is "residence time" fluid which flow in horizontal heat
exchanger gets more residence time as compared to vertical
heat exchanger.

what is the differance between Horizental and vertical heat exchanger? ..

Answer / sandeep singh

construction wise both r same but functionally they differ.vertical is mainly used when less floor area availible.and vertical required higher pumping cost also good for handling heat sensible material as resident time is much lower in comparision to the horizontal one.

1.Thermosyphon type HE is vertical HE and Kettle type HE is horizontal HE.

2.in horizontal position, pressure drop is negligible and in vertical position, pressure drop is significant and high.

3. If viscosity of bottom product of distillation column is very high then vertical position preferred and if low then horizontal position preferred.

4 in vertical position high circulation of fluid of possible and low circulation in horizontal position.

what is the differance between Horizental and vertical heat exchanger? ..

Answer / vishwarup sane

1. As the tubes are smooth, the condensation occurs on the surface of tubes, which makes the film over the surface of tubes leads to increase in thickness, as the thickness increases it's acts as a insulation and lower the effective heat transfer coefficient.
2. In vertical heat exchangers as we go downward the thickness of the film increases resulting lowers the heat transfer coefficient.
3. In horizontal heat exchanger the formation of film on the surface of tubes is there but the not as that much of vertical heat exchanger, so the heat transfer coefficient is higher in horizontal type heat exchanger than vertical type heat exchanger.

what is the differance between Horizental and vertical heat exchanger? ..

Answer / magesh

Both are the same. Only the way it is erected. Normally HXs are placed horizontally. But in case of space constraints they can be erected vertically. In such a case other changes like the head of pump pumping fluid to the vertical HX may change.

Question 78 - Fact 1 : Dry air contains 20.95 % oxygen, 78.09 % nitrogen, 0.93 % argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases by volume. Fact 2 : Volume occupied is directly proportional to the number of moles for ideal gases at constant temperature and pressure. Fact 3 : 12.5 moles of pure oxygen is required to completely burn 1 mole of pure octane. Fact 4 : Air–fuel ratio (AFR) is the mass ratio of dry air to fuel present in a combustion process such as in an internal combustion engine or industrial furnace. Fact 5 : Molecular weight of oxygen gas is 31.998 g / mole and molecular weight of nitrogen gas is 28.014 g / mole. (a) Find the molar ratio of nitrogen and oxygen, or (moles of nitrogen) / (moles of oxygen) in dry air, by assuming ideal features of nitrogen and oxygen gases. (b) How many moles of nitrogen are available if dry air is used to completely burn the 1 mole pure octane? (c) Find the mass of fuel of 1 mole of octane with molecular weight of 114.232 g / mole. (d) Find the mass of dry air with 12.5 moles of pure oxygen by assuming only oxygen and nitrogen gases exist in the air. (e) Find the air-fuel ratio (AFR) when octane is used as fuel. (f) Find the fuel-air ratio (FAR) when octane is used as fuel.

ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 34.6 : In a random walk, a stochastic process starts off with a score of A. This is a score for a chemical engineering test. At each discrete event, there is probability p chance you will increase your score by B and a (1 - p) chance you will decrease your score by C. The event happens T times. Let D = expected value of score. (a) Form an equation of D as a function of A, B, C, T and p. (b) Find the value of D if A = 60, B = 1, C = -1, T = 50, p = 0.5.
