Why the airgap of an induction motor is less compared to that of a synchronous machine?..

Answer / infodoss

Induction motor air gap is less:
To avoide the noise.
To improve the power factor.
To avoide the leakage flux.
Induction motor is operated in induction principal so
distance between rotor and stator is less.

Why the airgap of an induction motor is less compared to that of a synchronous machine?..

Answer / ujjal das

1)Lesser air gap of I.M. result in less magnetising current
(which is lagging reactive component of current)causing
better p.f.
2)Lesser air gap of I.M. result in less noise.
3)Better utilisation of stator flux.
In S.M.AIR GAP IS NOT A GOVERNING FACTOR OF P.F.

Why the airgap of an induction motor is less compared to that of a synchronous machine?..

Answer / arunkumar

as the stability critera is main in the synchronous m/c
the air gap length is more even though size and weight
increases with redused power factor ,where as there is no
stability criteria to be satisfied in I/M more
concentration is taken for power factor inprovement by
providing less air gap

Why the airgap of an induction motor is less compared to that of a synchronous machine?..

Answer / rahul

In induction motor power factor depends on air gap ,if air
gap more then power losses occured due inductive reactance
which lag power factor, power absorb by motor interms heat
increases. but in case of sych motor power factor depends on
stator exiatation,E>V POWER FACTOR LEAD.E<v then power factor
lag,so we have to maitain stator exiatation rather than the
air gap
