1. Why a DC motor starter is called 3 point starter
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / simpal
DC motor starter is called 3 point starter bcoz only 3
terminal (L,A,F)are available from starter.These 3 terminal
L(line),A(armature),F(field) must b connected to supply
terminal, motar armatuer terminal, and shunt field terminal.

Actually Dc motor starter are classified as two point
starter, three point starter and four point starter.
Three point starter is used in case of Shunt motor(some
cases this can be used compound motor also)
Four point starter is mainly used in compound motor.
Two point starter is used in series motor in order to make
the motor to run in safe manner.
Three points denotes Line terminal.field terminal and
armature terminal in which three points are connected.
three points L,A F.
that is the main reason

Beacuse this 3 point starter has three points to save the
motor.
1) over load protection
2) no volt protection
3) starting huge currect protection

Answer / nagaraju .n
In an dc motor have 1.armature
2.field
3.supply
in an 3point starter have 3point(L A F ),
it limits starting armeture current.because armeture is
very low resistence.
that way adding resistace series with the armature 3 point
starter should be used.

Answer / siddarth.m
the main purpose of using a three point starter is
to limit the starting armature current.......
This is because dc motor the initial voltage difference is
less so high current passes through the armature windings
which is not a desired factor. When we use a 3 point starter
it slowly induces the back emf in motor so that the voltage
difference is less and rate of current flow is less, so the
motor doesnt get spoiled

Answer / saila sandeep
because it has three terminals i.e;'l' 'f' 'a'
'l' is connected to supply
'f' is connected to feild circuit
'a' is connected to armature

Answer / karthick
because it has three terminals line, field, armature.these
three terminals are connected to their respective ones in a
motor.

dc motor starter is called 3 point starter it has three
terminal (L A F)(LINE,ARMATURE,FIELD) IT USED INSHUNT
MOTOR

I do wonder why current is present in neutral wire?i check single phase lead current feeding air conditioner...on its phase its current was 10A while same was 10A in neutral...as we know in neutral voltage is zero so if voltage is zero then how current appears on amp meter? my second observation is (just imagination)when I touch phase wire it give me shock but when i touch neutral nothing happens although as above its carrying current(amps) third but with same logic...as in simple Alternate current sine curve there is + and there is negative peak.means every time phase changing so how come every time same phase and same neutral stand (pardon for english mistakes)
