stress is internal property of material i.e the resistance
offered by material to exteranal applied force per unit
area, whereas the pressure is external prperty,it is the
distribution of force per unit area

2 kinds of stress are available:
1-shear stress which is the force that its vecctor is in
the plane of the body acting on.
2-normal stress which is the force that its vector is
normal to the plane of the body acting on. (the direction
is outward of the surface while the pressure has the
direction toward the body)

strength : is a property of a material which means that a ability of material to withstand the applied stress.
stress: is not a property of the material but it is the internal resistance of the material to the applied load per unit area to avoid the deformation

These quantities are expressed in terms of force per unit
area. In the SI the unit based on the Newton per square
meter (N/m2). Similarly data used in strength-of-materials
calculations (Young’s modulus of elasticity, yield strength
and so on) are all expressed in terms of the Newton. It has
been recommended by the International Standards organization
that the special name for the basic unit for pressure and
stress should be the pascal (pa). This recommendation is
subject to approval by the CGPM. The basic unit N/m2 is very
small, it is only 0.15 x 10 lb/in2, hence the KN/m2 (= 1000
/N/m2) are much more frequently encounters. The latter is
sometimes written as N/mm2. In some countries the bar = 105
N/m2 and hectobar = 107 N/m2 are employed. The safest rule
is to convert to the basic unit before starting any
calculations.

SRESS ON A BODY MAY EITHER BE EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL
i.e; EXT FORCE APPLIED=INTERNAL RESTORING FORCE
BUT
PRESSURE ALWAYS ACTS EXTERNALLY
OR..........
A THRUST IS CLASSIFIED UNDER PRESSURE BUT CANNOT BE SAID AS STRESS.
