resonance is the tendency of a system to oscillate at
maximum amplitude at a certain frequency. This frequency is
known as the system's resonance frequency (or resonant
frequency).

Answer / jonathan r. lambert
In electrical circuits, resonance occurs when the inductive
and capacitive reactances are equal and cancel. If the
reactors are in series, the circuits' impedance becomes
minimum and equals only the circuits' resistance. The
circuit current achieves a maximum value.
If the reactors are configured in parallel, often called
a "Tank" circuit, the resulting impedance becomes maximum,
ideally infinite, and the source current passing through
the parallel reactors becomes minimized, ideally zero.
Within the tank circuit however, the current achieves a
maximum value due to the cancelling reactor values.

when a body is vibrated with some periodic force,if the
natural frequency of that body coincides with the frequency
of the periodic force applied on it, with maximum amplitude
it is known as resonance......there are many types of
resonance-optical, electrical,mechanical,etc............

XL=2Ï€fl
XC=1/2Ï€fc
if XL=XC
then2Ï€fl=1/2Ï€fc
this is the condition of resonance
due to resonance the current flowing in the circuit is very high due to high current risk damege of equipment.
for the protection of the resonance we use reactor for the protection . it works as a low pass filter . Only pass up to the fifth harmonic of the resonance.

RESONANCE IS A PHENOMENA OCCURS IN ELECTRICAL AS WELL AS IN MECHANICAL SYSTEM IN WHICH THE SYSTEM ATTAINS MAXIMUM ENERGY IN CASE OF ELECTRICAL AND IN CASE OF SPRING IT VIBRATE WITH MAX AMPLITUDE AT A PARTICULAR FREQUENCY.
IN ELECTRICAL 1. SERIES RESONANCE 2. PARALLEL RESONANCE. 3. SERIES AND PARALLEL RESONANCE.
APPLICATION : WHEN WE TUNE A TRANSISTOR BAND ( RADIO) FOR A PARTICULAR FREQUENCY TO LISTEN A SONG WE ARE SHUTTLING AROUND A RESONANT FREQUENCY SO AS TO GET A GOOD AUDIBLE SONG.

Answer / shane e.
The frequency at which Capacitive and Inductive reactance cancel each other out at a given or "resonant Frequency" Creating an ideal 0 impedence or essentially very low impedence pathway.
Applications are: Stripping carrier waves from a modulated waveform on the recieving end so inteligencesignal can be amplified. Filtering out unwanted Harmonic frequencies by shunting them to ground.
